The effects on animals of large doses of laudexium methylsulphate.

چکیده
LAUDEXIUM METHYLSULPHATE (Laudolissin) is a synthetic curarizing agent (Taylor and Collier, 1951) used in prolonged surgical operations. We have previously described some of its pharmacological properties (Collier and Macauley, 1952) and the purpose of the present paper is to report a further exploration of its pharmacology in relation to its clinical use. As Bovet (1951) has stressed, the toxicity of a neuromuscular blocking agent in animals unprovided with artificial respiration indicates its potency rather than its possible toxicity during anaesthesia. More information may be gained by assessing the toxicity of these agents in animals maintained by artificial respiration and we describe such an assessment of laudexium. Since it seems possible that laudexium may be administered clinically over long periods of time to give muscular relaxation in chronic conditions, we also report results of sub-acute and chronic toxicity tests of the drug in mice.

متن کاملThyroid hormones profile in Holstein calves following dexamethasone and isoflupredone administration
BACKGROUND: Glucocorticoids are the steroidal drugs which are very widely used in large animal medicine. These agents have advantages in large animals but they have been also associated with many potential adverse effects especially at high doses or prolonged use. OBJECTIVES: The present experimental study was designed to clarify the effects of dexamethasone (DEXA) and isoflupredone (ISO), as t...
متن کاملThe effects of topiramate on the acquisition and expression of morphine-induced place conditioning and behavioral sensitization in mice
Introduction: Topiramate is a newly anti-convulsant drug, which acts as NMDA glutamate receptor antagonist as well as the GABAB receptor agonist. It is used for physical dependence to opioids as well as cocaine, nicotine, alcohol and ecstasy dependence. In the present study attempts were made to further identification of the effects of topiramate on the acquisition and expression of morphine...
متن کاملToxicopathological examinations after repeated intraperitoneal administration of silver nanoparticles in the Wistar rat model
Objective(s): Due to wide range of medical applications as bactericidal agents, nanosilver particles (NSPs) are manufactured worldwide in large quantities. However, potential toxicity impacts of NSPs in humans and animals still remain poorly understood. The objective of this study was to investigate clinical observations, mortality and pathological changes in rats follow...
متن کاملA Comparative Study on the Life-Saving Radioprotective Effects of Vitamins A, E, C and Over-the-Counter Multivitamins
Introduction: Oral intake of vitamins which present antioxidant characteristics can protect living organisms against oxidative damage caused by exposure to ionizing radiation. It was previously reported that administration of high levels of vitamin C can lead to increased DNA damage through production of hydroxyl radicals from hydrogen peroxide by the Fenton reaction. However, our early experim...
